Is Your Desk Job a Pain in the Neck (or Back)?
If you spend hours a day hunched over a keyboard, clicking away at a mouse, or attending never-ending Zoom meetings, your body is probably feeling the effects. Stiff neck? Aching back? Wrists that feel like they belong to an 80-year-old pianist? You’re not alone.
Sitting at a desk all day might seem harmless compared to, say, wrestling alligators or working on a construction site, but it can do some serious damage to your body over time. Poor posture, repetitive movements, and long periods of inactivity can lead to chronic pain, headaches, and even long-term spinal issues.
Luckily, there are ways to combat the aches and pains of desk work, and we’re here to help! As a Master level Zone Technique trained chiropractor, I see patients every day struggling with the effects of sedentary work life. Today, we’re diving into three simple (and chiropractor-approved) tips to keep your body feeling its best while you’re on the clock.
1. Upgrade Your Desk Setup
Imagine spending eight hours a day staring down at your phone. Sounds awful, right? But that’s essentially what many of us do when we sit at our desks with poor posture.
Here’s what you need to do:
Keep your screen at eye level to prevent “tech neck” (yes, that’s a real thing!).
Sit with your back supported and your feet flat on the ground. No perching on the edge of your chair like an anxious bird.
Use an external keyboard and mouse if you work on a laptop to avoid hunching forward like a detective solving a crime at 3 a.m.
Your workspace should support your body—not sabotage it!

2. Move It or Lose It
Your body wasn’t designed to sit in one position for hours at a time. (If it were, we’d all be sloths.) To keep your muscles and joints happy, get up and move regularly.
Try this:
Set a reminder to stand up and stretch every 30–60 minutes.
Take walking breaks—even a quick lap around the office can help.
Incorporate simple desk exercises, like shoulder rolls, seated spinal twists, and calf raises (bonus points if you get your coworkers to join in).

Movement keeps your circulation flowing and prevents those pesky aches and pains from setting in.
3. Get Adjusted and Stay Aligned
No matter how perfect your posture is or how often you stretch, desk work can still take a toll on your body. Regular chiropractic care helps keep your spine aligned, improves circulation, and reduces tension in those overworked muscles.
Zone Technique specifically targets areas of imbalance in your nervous system, which means we can pinpoint the root cause of your pain—whether it’s stemming from muscle tension, poor circulation, or even stress-related nerve interference.
And if you’re expecting a little one while navigating the demands of a desk job, Dr. Kayla, our Webster-certified chiropractor, is here for you! The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic approach designed to support pregnant women by reducing pelvic tension, easing discomfort, and promoting optimal fetal positioning. So, if you’re a working mom-to-be who spends all day at a desk, Dr. Kayla can help make your pregnancy (and work life) a whole lot more comfortable.

Ditch the OTC Painkillers—Go Natural Instead!
If your go-to solution for desk job pain is popping ibuprofen like it’s candy, it might be time to consider a more natural approach. While over-the-counter medications can offer temporary relief, they don’t address the underlying issue—and long-term use can come with unwanted side effects.
Luckily, nature has some powerful alternatives we carry in our offices:
Turmeric – This golden spice is packed with curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory that can help reduce pain and swelling.
Magnesium – Great for muscle relaxation and preventing those annoying tension headaches.
Omega-3s – Found in fish oil and flaxseed, these help reduce inflammation and support joint health.
CBD Oil – A natural option for soothing aches and calming stress (because let’s be honest, work can be stressful).
Making the switch to natural alternatives not only helps with pain relief but also supports your overall health without the risk of dependency or side effects.
Take the Next Step Toward a Pain-Free Workday
If desk job pain is starting to feel like an unavoidable part of your life, it’s time to take action. Chiropractic care can help restore proper alignment, reduce tension, and prevent future discomfort—so you can focus on work without the constant distraction of nagging pain.
Schedule an appointment today and let’s get you back to feeling great—whether you’re working at a desk, chasing after kids, or both!
And before we go, here’s a little workplace humor: Why did the chiropractor bring a ladder to the office?
Because they wanted to reach new heights in spinal health! (Okay, we’ll stick to adjustments and leave the comedy to the professionals.)
See you soon in the office!
