Back-to-School Backpack Safety: Protecting Your Child’s Spine
Backpack Safety

Hey there, parents!
As we dive into the new school year, let's talk about something that's often overlooked but super important: backpack safety! We want to ensure our kiddos' backpacks aren't causing more harm than good.
Weighty Matters
Did you know that a backpack should never weigh more than 10-15% of your child's body weight? For example, if your child weighs 80 pounds, their backpack should be no heavier than 8-12 pounds. Any more than that, and they're risking strain and injury!
Posture Perfect
When wearing a backpack, your child should:
Keep the straps adjusted so the backpack sits snugly on their back
Avoid slouching or leaning forward
Keep their head level and ears in line with their shoulders
Tips & Tricks
Pack smart: Only carry what's necessary. Encourage your child to remove unnecessary items and use a lunch box or water bottle outside of the backpack.
Choose wisely: Select a backpack with padded straps and a hip belt to distribute weight evenly.
Take breaks: Encourage your child to take off their backpack during lunch or between classes.

By following these simple tips, you'll be helping your child avoid unnecessary strain and injuries. Happy backpacking (safely, of course)!
